The Victorian Government has launched a new rail infrastructure project – the Metro Tunnel. Information about the Metro Rail Project is available here.
This project will deliver five new underground train stations, including Domain. Domain Station will be located on St Kilda Road at Domain Road. Information about Domain Station, and its construction, is available here.
We recognise there will be significant challenges during the construction phase of the project that may impact the routes to and from the School for members of our community.
The safety of our girls and staff is of the highest importance. We are working with the Melbourne Metro Rail Project team to identify issues, to mitigate risks and to identify alternative modes of transport that benefit our community. We are committed to providing regular updates about the project and the School’s plans for dealing with any issues arising.

Lane reductions and closures on St Kilda Road and Toorak Road West will be in place from June. New tram infrastructure will be installed to re-route the Route 58 tram from Domain Road to Toorak Road West in preparation for construction of the new underground station at Domain.
St Kilda Road will reduce to two traffic lanes in each direction between Domain Road and Toorak Road West over the first weekend of June, and then over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and during the last week of June.
St Kilda Road will be reduced to one traffic lane each way for 11 days from 1 July, with buses replacing trams to ensure passengers can still get where they need to go. On Toorak Road West, the eastbound lane will be closed between St Kilda Road and Park Street for more than two weeks from 13 June, before this section of Toorak Road West closes completely over the weekend of 1-2 July.

Proposed 40km/h Speed Limit
Arrangements are being made to install 40km/h speed limit signage in the local streets of South Yarra north of Toorak Road. The reduced speed limit signage is being progressively rolled out on the local road network across the municipality. The installation of the reduced speed limit in South Yarra will:
- Complement the existing 40km/h speed limits already installed in Domain, Bromby and Anderson Streets, as well as parts of Domain Road and Walsh Street, as part of the State Government’s School Speed Zone program. The reduced speed limit is also a significant step towards achieving the goals of the Council’s Road Safety Plan 2013-2017 and Walking Plan 2014-2017, both of which aim to reduce the likelihood of fatalities and serious injuries to vulnerable road users; and
- In the context of the Metro Rail Project, serve to generally improve local traffic safety and amenity within this area of South Yarra by discouraging through traffic from using these local roads to bypass traffic congestion on the arterial roads.
Effective Late May – Late September: Service Relocation Works
Major works on the Metro Tunnel Project are now underway in Domain to support construction of a new underground station. John Holland has been appointed as the Managing Contractor for this package of works, which includes site establishment, tree and vegetation removal, the relocation of water and drainage services within the Shrine Reserve (within the area currently occupied), and the relocation of drainage, water and power services in the Domain Precinct.

Effective 1 May: New Tram Route 58 (replacing Trams 8 and 55)
The new route runs from Toorak through South Yarra (via Domain Road) to the Domain Interchange on St Kilda Road. Trams then turn left down Park Street, South Melbourne and run along Kings Way to William Street, and on to West Coburg. Students and staff must transfer at Domain Interchange in order to travel to the CBD. At the same time, Route 6 from Glen Iris has been extended north from the University of Melbourne, to replace Route 8 services up Lygon Street to Moreland.
