Over the course of the year, the Davis group in the Early Learning Centre have been closely observing the construction of the Artemis Centre, the centrepiece of Melbourne Girls Grammar’s wellbeing program. Through conversation and visual prompts, educators have been purposefully drawing the girls’ attention to the slow progression of the build, with the objective to support the girls in gaining an appreciation of the hard work, thoughtful planning and time it takes to work on such a project.

In drawing awareness towards the planning process, the various stages of the build and the time it takes to complete, it is hoped to establish within the girls a deeper respect and appreciation of their constructed environment. Furthermore, it is hoped that the girls will transfer the knowledge that planning, collaboration, persistence and patience are all important steps in successfully achieving your goals. As the girls travel through Melbourne Girls Grammar as students they will be constantly reminded of this as they use the new space.

As an introduction, the girls visited the job site to view the early stages of construction. By taking the girls to the site it helped them to build an understanding of the location of the Artemis Centre, allowing the concept to become more tangible. Artemis fever has since swept over the classroom!
