Artist in Residence: Carly Fischer

During Term 3, our Middle Years girls have been very fortunate to work with Artist in Residence, Carly Fischer. Carly is a sculptural installation artist from Melbourne who likes to make artwork of everyday objects and place them in situations so that people take notice of issues to do with sustainability and the environment.

The students were inspired to hear of Carly’s life as an artist and what influences her in her art making. They were then challenged to make some of Carly’s products such as a McDonald’s brown paper bag, chip packets and soft drink cans. The students collaborated to install the work in an exhibition called ‘Trash and Treasure’. The work will comment on society’s use of packaging, rubbish in our environment and make our community stop and think about the functionality of highly recognisable objects.
